Charity Football Match – the highlights!

On the 3rd May 2026, we held a powerful community day of football and PSA testing, raising vital funds and awareness to help tackle prostate cancer and save lives

PSA testing - a day of impact!

We are incredibly proud to have partnered with the Bedfordshire Prostate Cancer Support Group (see picture below) to bring life-saving awareness and testing directly to the pitch.

It is a sobering and yet hopeful moment to look at the results of the 133 PSA tests delivered on the day.

The Breakdown of Results

// 108 men received a "Green" result, bringing them peace of mind for the time being.

// 24 men (16 Red and 8 Amber) have been advised to seek further investigation.

// 1 result was inconclusive and will require a follow-up test.

While receiving a "Red" or "Amber" result can be daunting, it is important to remember that this is not a diagnosis. It is, however, a vital, early opportunity.

Because these men chose to step up and get tested, they have gained the most powerful tool available: time.

By catching these indicators now, they can take proactive steps with their doctors, potentially changing the course of their health stories entirely.

Special half-time guests

Joining in the half-time fun were teams from both the younger and older generations, all showing off their football skills!

The walking football match saw Flitwick take on Maulden, while on the adjacent pitch Ampthill Youth played Queensmen Youth.

It was great to see both games in action, a real reminder that football is for everyone.

Supported by the legend Mick Harford

A really big thank you to our friend, supporter and Luton Town legend, Mick Harford.

Mick led both teams out and presented the trophy alongside Adem Coskum (our first fundraiser), with Mayor Steve Addy also there to support the day. Having been personally affected by prostate cancer, Mick is also a patron of the Beds Prostate Cancer Support Group, which made his involvement even more meaningful.

The match report!

The community spirit was off the charts at our Ampthill vs. Cancer charity football match!

It was a true celebration of the game, bringing together players ranging from 14 to 63 years old, from seasoned ex-pros to brave novices.

The atmosphere was electric from the start as we had the absolute legend Mick Harford lead the teams out onto the pitch!

The drama that followed was something straight out of a movie!

The Struggle: The Mayor’s XI found themselves in a tough spot, trailing 4–0 at half-time by a dominate Ampthill vs Cancer team.

The Comeback: After a legendary half-time team talk by the Mayor (or so he says) it clearly sparked some magic, with the Mayor XI team rallying back goal by goal.

The Hero: In the 96th minute, 14-year-old Jamie Redding stepped up under immense pressure to bury the equalising penalty, ending 90 minutes in a thrilling 4–4 draw! The referee (big thanks to Sam and his officials) played a major part in making sure the game went to a penalty shoot out.......

The Ampthill vs Cancer team won the penalty shoot out, but the real winner was the occasion! (Honest..)

Ampthill vs Cancer was proud to hand over a cheque for £1,962 to Beds Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Thanks to incredible community support, we fully funded the PSA testing day, helping local men access testing. Beds Prostate Cancer Support Group organised the clinical provision and covered staffing and operational costs, so it was only right that the money raised is reinvested to support those efforts and future initiatives.

A key aim for Ampthill vs Cancer is not just raising money, but funding projects that deliver real local impact, especially around awareness and early detection.

Thank you to everyone who attended, donated, played, volunteered, and supported the event. Together, we’re showing what community action can achieve.
