The Run Is Just the Beginning: Everyone’s Invited to The Cooldown at Ampthill vs Cancer

Visitors heading to Ampthill vs Cancer on Sunday 28th June are being encouraged to do more than just cross the finish line – they’re being invited to stay, relax and make a day of it.

And you don’t need to be taking part in the run to join in.

While hundreds of runners will take part in the 5K, Golden Hare Mile and Mini Hare, everyone is welcome at The Cooldown, a free community celebration packed with live music, local food and drink, family entertainment, stalls and fundraising activities.

Organisers are encouraging people to bring a picnic blanket, gather family and friends, and enjoy everything the day has to offer. Whether you’re running, supporting someone taking part or simply looking for a great afternoon out, The Cooldown is open to all.

“We’ve worked hard to make Ampthill vs Cancer more than just a run,” said the charity trustees. “Of course, the 5K is at the heart of the day, but The Cooldown is where the community comes together. You don’t need a race number to join us. Come along, enjoy the atmosphere, support local businesses and be part of a fantastic community day.”

Food & Drink
No community celebration would be complete without great food and drink.
Visitors can enjoy everything from award-winning local coffee from Wooden Hill and breakfast favourites from Chubby’s Breakfast Baps, through to Chicken George, Chai Indian Street Food, Eskabars Chill Grill, Wakey Joes and a traditional ice cream van. Ampthill Town Cricket Club will also be running a beer tent throughout the afternoon.
You’re also welcome to bring your own picnic and refreshments, so grab a blanket and settle in for the afternoon.

Family Fun & Kids Activities
There will be plenty to keep younger visitors entertained long after the races have finished.
Children can enjoy story times with the Lucky Hare, crafts with Laura Tedder, face painting, balloons and a football goal complete with speed gun challenge.
Whether they’re taking part in the Mini Hare, the Golden Hare Mile or simply cheering from the sidelines, there’s plenty for little ones to enjoy.

Community Stalls & Supporters
The Cooldown is also a chance to celebrate the amazing local businesses, charities and organisations that help make Ampthill such a special community.
Visitors can meet and support a fantastic range of local organisations including Keech Hospice, MOVE Against Cancer, CrossFit Ampthill, Ampthill Cultural Events and Rewired, alongside independent businesses such as The Ampthill Alchemist, Day Dreaming by Jenny, Coopers Collars, Willow Tree Gin, Ivy + Jones, Fierce & Fred, Home Farm MK and The Tallow Shed.

Live Music
Live music will provide the soundtrack to the afternoon, courtesy of Ampthill Music. Local favourites Chalk and Cheese (& Friends) and Aftertone will be performing throughout the event, creating the perfect atmosphere as families relax and enjoy the afternoon.

Alongside the entertainment, visitors can also take part in fundraising activities, including the charity raffle, helping to raise vital funds for Ampthill vs Cancer and its chosen charity partners.

The Cooldown continues until 5pm and is open to everyone.
So, whether you’re taking part in the 5K, supporting a friend or simply looking for a great community day out, pack a picnic blanket and join us.
