AvC 5K 2026 – Bigger, Better and Back for the Community
04 February 2026
Fittingly, registration opens on World Cancer Day, Wednesday 4 February 2026, and aligns with this year’s theme, United by Unique. It’s a message that resonates deeply with families across Ampthill and the surrounding villages, every cancer journey is different, but no one should have to face it alone.
With around 1 in 2 people in the UK affected by cancer during their lifetime, almost every family in the community has been touched in some way. That shared experience is what sits at the heart of Ampthill vs Cancer.
What began as a simple idea to bring people together and raise vital funds for charities supporting local people affected by cancer has grown into a powerful movement of hope, remembrance and community spirit.
In 2025, nearly 1,000 runners and walkers came together for the inaugural event, raising over £25,000 for three charities, an incredible achievement that highlighted the compassion, generosity and togetherness of the local community.
Organisers are now looking ahead to 2026 with excitement, determined to build on that momentum and make the event even more impactful. The 5K event will return, welcoming both runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to take part in a meaningful day of fundraising, reflection and togetherness.
What’s New for 2026
This year’s event will be even more family focused. Alongside the return of the popular Golden Hare Mile for children aged 7–12, a brand-new Mini-Hare for children 6 and under will be introduced, giving even the youngest members of the community the chance to get involved and feel part of something special.
There will also be more entertainment and a wider range of food offerings after the races, creating a full day where families, friends and supporters can stay together, share stories, remember loved ones, and celebrate the strength of the community while raising vital funds.
Supporting Vital Causes
For 2026, Ampthill vs Cancer will proudly support Keech Hospice and MOVE Against Cancer – two charities making a life-changing difference to people and families affected by cancer across the local area.
The organisers will also soon announce new community initiatives, including an exercise and movement programme specifically designed for people impacted by cancer, alongside a one-off PSA testing initiative planned in partnership with a local football event, helping to raise awareness and support early detection.
The team is delighted to already be receiving incredible backing from local businesses and organisations and is proud to confirm that Wheeler Electrical and Dynamic Construction are returning as headline sponsors for 2026.
“What started as a small idea to bring our community together has grown into something truly special,” said Dave Bateson, founder of Ampthill vs Cancer. “Seeing nearly 1,000 people come together last year and raise over £25,000 was incredibly moving. For 2026, we’re determined to make the event even bigger – welcoming more families, creating more moments of reflection and celebration, and raising even more vital funds for Keech Hospice and MOVE Against Cancer.
The support we’ve already received from local businesses and residents has been amazing, and we can’t wait to come together again in Ampthill Great Park to show what this community can achieve when we stand together.”
With registration now officially open, organisers are encouraging runners, walkers, families and supporters to sign up early and be part of what promises to be a memorable and meaningful day for the whole community – helping to raise vital funds and ensure that no one faces cancer alone.
